Week 80: Average Joe Kinda Week

Hey everyone! Just like the weekly title says, this was kind of an average kind of week for me. Nothing too crazy or exciting happened for us. Oh well, what can you do I guess?

Here is a quick run through of this week:
Monday was a copy and paste of last Monday. More basketball and more good times!
Tuesday we had a couple really awesome lessons that went pretty well. Most all of our days consisted of just contacting as many people as we could to either have a lesson or to set one up. We were able to meet with a member named Jamar who has been struggling and we shared a message with him and the spirit was very strong. We are trying to help him start getting more and more active in the ward.
Wednesday we had district council in the morning that went pretty good. After that we had a couple really awesome lessons with some people we're teaching so that was lit. I now have a new Nana in the mission. It's a lady named Sharon that we're teaching, that we also do some service for. We help her garden by pulling weeds and planting plants and she absolutely loves us. She treats us like her grandchildren and I call her Nana. It's pretty fun. After that we went with the young men over to a member's house to do some service. We were helping trim down bushes and throw all the branches into a wood chipper. The only issue was that we had like 10 people, and one wood chipper. Needless to say, there was a lot of standing around and messing around. Oh well, what can you do I guess?
Thursday we had a good ole time going on an adventure to Powell. We had to grab some stuff for Elder Newberry from the mission office so we went up and grabbed everything.
Friday we went over to the food bank and did some service there cleaning and organizing donated food. We had a good time and got to know a lot of cool people. After that we had a couple lessons that went pretty good.
Saturday we helped get the church ready for a baptism for a member and their son. We ran into an issue because the hot water wasn't working. We got it halfway full before we finally got the hot water working so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. They weren't swimming in ice cubes thankfully. Other than that, we just had a couple lessons with people and did some contacting.
Sunday was pretty sweet. We went to church, and had a good ole time. After that we did weekly planning and got that all done. At the end of the day we called a self referral who requested a bible study and had an interesting conversation. She said that she wanted us over there immediately to do a bible study because she needs to be close to Jesus because a whole bunch of nonsense is happening and she may not be alive tomorrow. So we grabbed a couple other elders and ran over to talk with her. We ended up sharing a message and talking to the lady and her friend for a little bit and helped them feel more at peace. Overall it was a wild conversation, but it went pretty good. And that concluded our week!

Miracle of the week:
A super awesome miracle that we saw this week was the fact that Belinda and Derek are open to doing a church tour and maybe coming to church with us. It's a major step forward because they have been kind of hesitant about coming. So we are very much excited!

Funny Moment of the week:
I almost scored a new pink bike helmet when we went up to Powell, but it was a little too small. Oh well, maybe next time! You can at least enjoy the picture!

Elder Bohn

Week 79: Donkeys & Evil Spirits

Hey everyone! This was a chaotic week that had as much crazy stuff happen that could possibly happen. The condensed version is that we had some sweet lessons and awesome training visits. And then we had to deal with evil spirits in some other elders' apartments over the period of 3 days. Then we got to hang out with some donkeys. It was lit!

Here is a quick run through of this week:
Monday was a rinse and repeat of last week. Basketball with the boys!
Tuesday we had interviews with President that went pretty well. We were with the Greenfield elders for the day so it was a good time. We talked to a couple pretty cool people, and we got those elders 2 new people to teach with a couple phone calls.
Wednesday we had a pretty average day. We met with a couple cool people, and then we met with some rather crazy individuals. We talked to some grandma and her daughter about the restoration and it went pretty good. They both just went on and on about their spiritual experiences at religious revivals and just being overcome with the spirit. They were wild!
Thursday we were with the Madison Lake elders for the day. We had one of the most interesting days of my mission on this day. They just have so many interesting people that they meet with down there, it's obnoxious. We did some service for some people and then cleaned out a turtle's tank at another dude's house. Overall the day went by pretty quickly. Also we got vaccinated.
Friday we mainly just did service for a family in the ward that is moving out. We pretty much just cleaned out their house with them and put up some drywall. So yeah, that was pretty boring. Things got wack when the Greenfield elders called us and said that their apartment is haunted. They said that they tried to dedicate the apartment, but the evil spirit just wouldn't go away. So they ended up driving to our apartment to stay the night.
Saturday morning the elders left and we went about our day as usual. We had a very long meeting with Belinda and Derek. We did service for quite some time and then had a long discussion about priesthood authority. We gave them a lot to think about and left them with a homework assignment, so it was awesome. Things then again took a turn for the worse when the Greenfield elders called again and said that they tried casting out the spirits and it again didn't work. They were still horribly spooked and stayed the night with us AGAIN. It was quickly not becoming a good time for anyone.
Sunday the elders again went back to their area and we went to church. After talking to president he told us to go down to Greenfield and stay the night and see what's up. So after church we boogied on down and spent the day with them. When we went to bed we dedicated the apartment and everything was fine. No more weird spirits or weird feelings, so we all just went to bed and called it good.

Miracle of the week:
I think the miracle for us was finally getting that annoying spirit to leave so that we can have things go back to normal for everyone.

Funny moment of the week:
To sum it up, I had a companion who paints journals and copies of the Book of Mormon for people. So naturally, I had him paint President Horgesheimer's face on Captain Moroni's body on my journal. At  interviews I got President  to sign it so it was probably the greatest moment of my life!

Week 78: Papa Bear's Got the Vipes!

Hey everyone! We've experienced a lot of ups and downs so far this week. Everything has literally been all over the place, so it's been fun to deal with. Many cancelled lessons and even more impromptu out of nowhere lessons. Mission life is just nonstop good times!

Here's a quick run through of this week:
Monday we played a lot of basketball and volleyball with some other elders in the district so it was pretty dang lit. Other than that we just chilled in the apartment and relaxed.
Tuesday we had Zone Conference which was super awesome. We got a lot of incredible trainings from President and Sister Horgesheimer along with some other missionaries. Sister Horgesheimer's was the best, obviously, because it always is. She read us a couple scriptures out of 2 Nephi in the Isaiah chapters and compared us all to lions. I'll put the scripture down below. After that was over we had a couple impromptu lessons with random people we were calling. Overall it was a pretty sweet day!
Wednesday we had a pretty busy day scheduled. All of our lessons cancelled so it kinda sucked, but hey, we showed everyone else and called a bunch of people and had a couple lessons anyways. Other than
that, nothing much happened.
Thursday we also had another busy day with a ton of lessons scheduled. Most of them ended up cancelling, but again we made the most of it and contacted more people. You'll notice that this is going to happen a lot this week.
Friday was another rinse and repeat of the previous 2 days so that was hype. We STILL managed to get a couple impromptu lessons with random people so it was hype.
Saturday was a fun day for us. We had a lesson with a lady who is a member of a branch off of our church. She just talked for a long time about random things and some of her beliefs which was... interesting. After that we did some weekly planning and had a couple pretty sweet lessons. We called some crazy lady named Sharon who is convinced we worship "George Smiff". Oh well, what can you do?
Sunday was way hype! We had a sweet miracle with a lady we were teaching which will be talked about below. After that we had quite a few member visits which went pretty good. It's been good getting to know the ward a lot better, the people here are pretty awesome! To end off the night we got together with a couple other elders and watched the devotional from the Stevensons. Overall this was a fantastic week despite people not wanting to meet with us. All you gotta do is grind. And when things don't go right, to just grind harder.

Miracle of the week:
We had a lady named Wilka come to church with us. Out of the 10 people we invited, she was the one who came. It was incredible to see some fruits from our labors, so life is hype!

Funny moment of the week:
I got our vehicle coordinator Elder Bower, (I call him Papa Bear), to wear my Pit vipers in a picture with me. This man made my entire week!

Love,
Elder Bohn

The scripture reference mentioned earlier is 2 Nephi 15:26-29

26 And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will
hiss unto them from the end of the earth; and behold, they shall come
with speed swiftly; none shall be weary nor stumble among them.

27 None shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their
loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken;

28 Whose arrows shall be sharp, and all their bows bent, and their
horses’ hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a
whirlwind, their roaring like a lion.

29 They shall roar like young lions; yea, they shall roar, and lay
hold of the prey, and shall carry away safe, and none shall deliver.

Final Thoughts!

I love this gospel! I am so grateful for the honor and privilege it was to labor in the vineyard of the Lord. I know Christ lives, and I kno...
